ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate early dynamic contrast enhancement CT on multiple organ failure in acute pancreatitis. Methods 333 cases of acute pancreatitis identified by clinical and early dynamic contrast enhancement CT were collected.Patients were divided into organ failure group(OF group,124 cases) and non-organ failure group (notn-OF group,209 cases). All variables including duration of hospitalization, need for intensive care unit, infection, need for operation, mortality and MCTSI,EPIC score were analyzed by U test and x2 test firstly. The variables with significance (P<0.05) were analyzed by Stepwise Logistic regression further. Results On U test and x2 test, there were significant differences(P<0.001) between two groups in duration of hospitalization, need for intensive care unit, infection, need for operation, mortality,MCTSI score and EPIC score and APFC + ANC> 100 mL,and bilateral pleural effusion/ pulmonary atelectasis. The Stepwise Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that increased MCTSI and EPIC score,APFC+ANC> 100 mL and bilateral pleural effusion/pulmonary atelectasis were 4 independent risk factors of multiple organ failure in acute pancreatitis. Conclusion Multiple organ failure in acute pancreatitis can be judged with early dynamic contrast enhancement CT for improved treatment.

ABSTRACT

With the advent in the technology, accurate examination techniques, especially for delicate structures in the oral and maxillofacial regions are required over conventional x-rays, which are mere 2D (2-dimensional) representations of the 3D (3-dimensional) oral structures. Hence, a radiographic tool with a 3D presentation like that of CBCT (Cone beam computed tomography) technology is preferred in pre- and post-treatment assessment of periodontal defects & implant placements.CBCT technology has been used for almost 2 decades, but was previously more expensive to be used in routine dental practice. Recent developments in this field have made its use more practical in routine dentistry. This literature review, emphasizes the invent, development, working, uses, benefits & limitations of dentascan when used in Periodontics.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The anatomical characteristics of the maxillary bones and their possible variations present a great interest by increasing demand for surgical procedures such as orthognathic surgery and placement of osseointegrated implants. From this perspective, there is particular interest in relation to autogenous bone grafts, considering the growing need for their application associated with implants in those individuals with resorption and bone defects. The knowledge of the anatomy and content of the mental inter-foramina area and possible clinical implications are still controversial and poorly documented. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) allows reformatting of a three-dimensional image allowing a more detailed study of the mandibular symphysis region. Objective: To assess the dimensions of the mandibular symphysis for bone grafting in panoramic and parasagittal reconstructions obtained by CBCT. Material and Methods: Determined were: the mental inter-foramina distance, the distance between the buccal cortical and lingual cortical and the distance between the apex of the mandibular anterior teeth and the base of the mandibula. The presence of anterior loops of the mental nerve and anterior extension of the same in the two reconstructions will also be evaluated. Two hundred CBCT`s from adult men and women were utilized, obtained from the image files of the Department of Stomatology, Bauru School of Dentistry / USP. The visibility and measurements of the mandibular symphysis were evaluated by CBCT through the distance tool from the i-CAT Vision Software in panoramic (RfPan) and parasagittal (RfPsg) reconstructions, thus determining their measurements to perform surgery for the removal of the bone graft. Results: The average measurement of the mental inter-foramina distance, to obtain the width of the donor area was 42.27 mm between the outer buccal cortical and external lingual cortical, and to obtain the total thickness of the...
